Strata Solar seeks to build Mocksville solar farm – Greensboro – The Business Journal

Strata Solar, a Chapel Hill-based solar developer, has plans to build a 5-megawatt solar farm near Mocksville, according to filings with the N.C. Utilities Commission.

But the company will face some roadblocks before getting that project under way. Officials from the state Utilities Commission have received two formal objections about the projects and have since called for a public hearing, according to the Charlotte Business Journal, a sister publication.

The opponents say the project will hurt local property values and disrupt the current lease on the 30 acres that Strata Solar has identified for the proposed farm.

According to the state filings, the Mocksville solar farm would be located on a 30-acre site on Eaton Road in Davie County. The farm would sell the energy generated to Duke Energy    Carolinas.

A Strata spokesman told the Charlotte Business Journal that the residents' concerns will be addressed during the permitting process.

Strata Solar is one of North Carolina’s most prolific solar developers, with nearly two dozen industrial installations statewide. And it has an aggressive plan for development of more than a dozen 5-megawatt solar farms across the state, according to the News & Observer of Raleigh.
