Strata Solar Chooses Sunny Central Inverters for Twin 20 MW Solar Farms in Southwestern Tennessee
ROCKLIN, Calif., May 06, 2014—SMA has been selected by Strata Solar, a leading turnkey solar power plant developer, to provide inverters for the two largest solar installations in Tennessee. Each totaling 20 MW DC, the Selmer and Mulberry utility solar farms in Selmer will include a combined 36 Sunny Central 800CP-US inverters. The systems are expected to be complete in December.
The Selmer and Mulberry installations will each contain about 81,000 BYD solar modules and 18 Sunny Central 800CP-US inverters. Together, they are expected to generate 63,125 MWh of electricity annually, offsetting 26,875 tons of CO2 per year. The projects—which will interconnect to the Pickwick Electric Cooperative—have already created 200 new jobs in Selmer.
“We are honored to be a part of Strata’s newest utility solar farms in Tennessee,” said Henry Dziuba, president and general manager of SMA America. “The Sunny Central inverters selected for the Selmer and Mulberry plants will help Strata achieve maximum power production and system reliability.”
The Sunny Central CP-US line of inverters offers class-leading 98.7 percent efficiencies and SMA’s intelligent temperature management system, OptiCool™, which enables outdoor operation in a variety of challenging climates. The Sunny Central CP-US line also provides leading grid management functions to address utility requirements.
“SMA is an internationally recognized producer of quality inverters,” said Markus Wilhelm, Strata Solar CEO. “Not only are its products highly reliable, but the company also continues to evolve its inverters’ efficiency and capacity to meet their customers’ needs.”
Strata’s Tennessee projects fall under the Renewable Standard Offer (RSO) provided by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a federal government-owned corporation that provides electricity for 9 million people in parts of seven southeastern states. Part of the TVA’s vision and long-term strategy to emphasize cleaner air and greater energy efficiency, the RSO program offers pre-set prices and terms and conditions for power generated by selected, commercially available renewable energy technologies.
